Chom reap sua! We are students from the School for Field Studies' Cambodia center, based in Siem Reap. We are a group of American university students who are studying abroad in Cambodia to learn about topics such as deforestation, wildlife conservation, land-based livelihoods, ecotourism and ethical development. As part of our coursework we visit field sites around the country.
Prey Kbal Tuk community forest in the village of Tbeng Lech is one of those field sites. As one of the first Community Forests in Cambodia, Prey Kbal Tuk plays an important role as an example of community conservation in Cambodia. It is an important site in the Siem Reap area where villagers can sustainably harvest traditional forest products such as honey, rattan and medicinal plants. In addition, the forest contains rare hardwood restoration areas, and a unique freshwater spring ecosystem.
