Supporting LaTonya Cross in Her Fight Against Advanced Breast Cancer

She is courageously battling metastatic breast cancer while also facing something no one should have to endure during such a fight — homelessness. Over the past month, her condition has become critical. On January 12th, she was sent straight from her oncologist’s office to the emergency room after experiencing severe shortness of breath and swelling in her legs. An emergency ultrasound revealed dangerous fluid surrounding her heart. Within hours, she was rushed into surgery to place a pericardial drain to relieve the pressure and quite literally save her life. Her hospitalization lasted ten long days (January 12th–22nd). During that time, she endured multiple procedures. After the heart drain was removed on January 18th, doctors placed a PleurX catheter in her right lung on January 19th to manage the cancer-related fluid buildup that was making it difficult for her to breathe.
