Changing Lives of Girls in Kenya: Library & Computer Lab. I would like for you to meet our Kenyan friend Leah Wandera. Leah came to our retirement home, Brooks Howell to begin her training to become a United Methodist Deaconess in the fall of 2019. Mary Z, my spouse, invited Leah to come to our home and prepare a favorite meal from her country. This shared meal began our friendship with a MOST remarkable young woman of incredible faith and vision who frequently leaves us in awe. Leah shines with brilliance that reflects her high intellect and energy to change the world for us all, especially the girls and women of Kenya. Leah has founded the Wema (Swahili for wellness) Health Foundation to empower women and girls with access to formal education and reproductive health services. Goals for 2022 for Wema include creating a Library and Computer Lab and a life-skills and academic mentorship three-day retreat for the girls.
