Fundraiser Story
In 2010, Cpl Kyle Carpenter was serving in Afghanistan and came under attack by enemy fighters. When a live grenade landed nearby and threatened a pair of marines' lives, Carpenter threw himself in front of it, without hesitation, to block his comrades from the explosion. He sustained a skull fracture and punctured lung, and was sent to Walter Reed Military Hospital in Washington, DC to recover. During his two years there, one of the greatest difference makers was having his parents there to support him.
Kyle's parents were able to stay in a nearby Fisher House, a network of homes that provide service members, veterans and their families with comfortable lodging, food, and other services in their time of need. Their work is vital for keeping military families strong, together, and physically nearby during the most difficult seasons of illness, disease, and injury.
Each Fisher House anticipates the families' needs and goes above and beyond to provide a safe, clean and comfortable home...
