Jeffery Lewis, Shock Trauma and Medical Assistance

On Saturday August 2, 2025, Jeffery Lewis, a junior at Chincoteague High School, was in a devastating vehicle accident and was flown to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland located in Baltimore Maryland. Jeffery had a round of emergency surgeries. However, he is still unconscious with swelling in his brain. Other injuries include: Lumbar and both legs broken with the left leg with the most damage. Doctors have stated about possible amputation if they cannot get the bleeding to stop. The doctors were able to stop the bleeding in his stomach. Jeffery is still fighting hard. Doctors had to rush him back into surgery that night for blood collecting on top of his brain. He came out of that and is being watched closely as it is a major concern. Doctors are going to have to do another surgery in order to look at his left leg once he becomes stable.
