Nearly 60% of teenage girls reported feeling persistent sadness or hopelessness in 2021, compared to just under 30% of their male counterparts.
Between 40-60% of elementary school girls (ages 6-12) are concerned about their weight or about becoming too fat, a concern that endures throughout life.
Girls are approximately 20% less physically active than boys.
Smart Fit Girls, a registered 501(c)3, is an evidence-based program for adolescent girls that aims to support adolescent girls’ physical and emotional health. During our program, girls participate in activities specifically designed to promote positive body image and self-esteem as well as learn how to lift weights. We support young girls to feel strong on the inside as well as the outside!
The theme of our campaign is Equitable Access to Movement. Why? Individuals who are highly physically active are more likely to have greater self-esteem, better body image, and increased physical activity self-efficacy. ...
