Hi everyone!
I am a Board Certified Music Therapist serving the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at The Children’s Hospital at TriStar Centennial. Many of the babies I serve have long NICU stays that can last up to several months.
Recorded music is often used at the bedside to calm and soothe the babies. Currently, the music is played through cell phones and platforms such as Pandora and YouTube are used to find the music.
As a music therapist, I support the use of music to soothe and calm a baby, and I also recognize that there are evidence based practices for the type of music that should be played for NICU babies to maximize benefits and minimize harm. I am fundraising to purchase appropriate and safe music listening equipment for the hospitalized infants.
The funds donated would be used to purchase individual MP3 players and speakers for the unit. I would pre-record music that is appropriate and safe for the preemie brain and set-up the MP3s so that this music plays at a safe vol...
