Survival Guide For Mothers During Covid-19

The Coronavirus pandemic has brought  many fears and doubts to mothers and families all around the world. Mothers are concerned about the health of their children as well as for their family’s financial stability. The economic shutdown has led to business closures and widespread unemployment, creating financial and emotional stress on many. Mothers are not alone.  We will all get through this unprecedented time together.  Here are some tips to get you through these challenging times.

Be Proactive and Positive

Don’t succumb to the virus frenzy created on social media. We have all faced illness and flu before.  We are survivors. Stay informed and do your own research.  Compare the facts and statistics. Don’t believe everything you read and hear on TV, cell phones and social media. Focus on the positive. Be hopeful and upbeat and your family will follow your lead. We are women warriors and we can inspire confidence, trust and resilience by our example.

Follow all suggested protocols and practice social distancing. Wear a mask and gloves as needed to protect yourself and others.

Enjoy your extra family time at home to engage in new fun activities. Cook and play games. Consider having special ethnic meal nights where you cook with your children and feature food from around the world. Take an online class together.  Visit virtual museums and online concerts and shows. Take a virtual field trip.  Google a list of 50 things to do while you are at home.

Talk To Your Children

Remember to have honest and thoughtful conversations with your children to help them cope with any fears, confusion or anxieties they may have about COVID or other issues. Have frequent check-in talks with your kids to help focus on love and happiness. Listen to your children.

Feature Yourself

Try to take time out for yourself at least once a day for a minimum of 20 minutes.  Take time out of your busy life to do the little things that bring you peace and joy.  Practice yoga, meditation, read a book, take a walk, or indulge in a hot bath.  Rejuvenate your spirit!

Remember that we are all going through these tough times together and we will emerge stronger than ever. Believe in all good things. Having a positive mindset can make any situation better.
